Autumn leaves were a danger to pedestrians on Keephatch Road

Your local Labour team took to the streets in November to tackle the compacted and very slippery wet leaves that had accumulated on the pavement.

We know how unsafe wet, slippery leaves can make people feel at this time of year. So we got to work!

Labour councillors and local volunteers spent a morning clearing away wet leaves and also some compacted soil that had encroached onto the pavement over many years, leaving less room for pedestrians.

How can you help?

Years of funding cuts to Wokingham Borough Council mean that they cannot sweep every pavement as regularly as they used to. Your local Labour team think it is really important to do our bit and encourage others to do the same! To help you can:
• If you are able, sweep the area in front of or surrounding your property to make it safe for pedestrians, especially those who are less mobile;
• Make sure vegetation from your property doesn’t encroach on the pavement – this can make it hard for people with pushchairs, wheelchairs or mobility scooters to get through;
• Avoid parking on pavements – they are for people not cars!
• Report overgrown vegetation to the Council here www.wokingham.gov.uk/roadworks-and-outdoor-maintenance
• Join in with one of our local community clean ups – just contact Marie-Louise, Nagi or Rachel for details.
