Railway Ticket Office Saved!

Well done to the many local residents who replied to the consultation on the closure of Railway Ticket Offices. The Conservatives – and it was always the Conservatives – have backed down.

In the end over 750,000 responses were received, with about 99% opposed to the consultation.

Labour volunteers campaigned against railway ticket office closures at the rail station and in the town centre.

Andy Croy, Marilyn, Marie-Louise Weighill, Paula Montie and Ronal Noble in Wokingham Town Centre in August. The team to spoke to many shoppers and provided pens and clipboards so the response cards could be completed on the spot.

The Wokingham Labour team campaigned on the issue in several important ways.

We obtained three thousand pre-paid response cards to allow people to easily take part in the consultation.
Our volunteers handed out some cards to train passengers at Wokingham station.
Aaron, our candidate in the Wescott East by-election, publicised the issue in his election material and our volunteers distributed the pre-paid response cards along with his material.
Our volunteers made cards available to shoppers in the town centre and then posted the completed cards to ensure the voices of Wokingham people were heard.

Aaron's leaflet and thousands of consultaiton response cards were delivered to residents in Wescott while Marie-Louise delivered response cards in Norreys.
